Charles is away for a Zombie Larp, so I was up until two last night.  That usually happens when he's away; I fritter time away aimlessly, unable to settle until I'm too tired to think.  Fifteen years of marriage, and I still miss him the minute he leaves.
Last night, for the first time in years, I stayed up writing.  I don't care if it was crap, or if no one ever reads it; getting lost in writing is like dark chocolate or listening to Josh Groban, like making love during a thunderstorm.  I feel so incredibly ALIVE.  OK, also sleep deprived, but it's still a great feeling.  ;>

I call it The Burn, and I live for it sometimes. When I was younger I had a policy that it was always worth losing sleep to finish reading a really good book. These days I need sleep more so I tightened the standards, but it's still worth losing sleep to finish writing a story or scene.

I feel the same way about writing. When I know that I have written something well that is deep and meaningful, I feel complete satisfaction, a euphoria that is a better high than any mere drug could give. There is nothing like it. Writing is glorious.

What were you writing? Was it the StarRise story or something original? (Not sure how to phrase that...)
