With Great Trepidation:
Mar. 1st, 2009 05:04 pmI'm going to try to post day one from my trip without making you all slog through it.
Trip Journal, 2/5/09 to 2/14/09

The weather is unseasonably cool. When we left the house about 10 AM, it was only 10’F. The trip to the airport was uneventful, except for finding Park Plaza, which we found just as we had decided to give up and use the airport garage instead. The people at Park Plaza were very nice and helpful, and Joy loved the shuttle bus to the airport, considering it her first ride.
The airport was not too crowded, and we moved through baggage check and security pretty easily. After that we got the girls a snack, then played with them in a hallway that had responsive pictures--a giant red umbrella made up of tiny red umbrellas, and where our shadows touched it, the tiny umbrellas scattered like leaves in the wind. The plane boarded a little late, right at 2 PM, but the trip was fast, and despite leaving late, we actually arrived 10 minutes early. Joy was less impressed with the plane, and swallowed her gum soon after take-off, but both girls were well behaved on the flight with books and coloring to distract them.
At Orlando, the monorail at the airport was a tremendous hit with both kids, and Disney’s Magical Express was relatively effortless, with only a brief wait for our bus. The bus showed a promotional video that was fairly entertaining, and we arrived at last at the Wilderness Lodge.
The Lodge is breathtaking, with a towering lobby, enormous totem poles, and giant lamps that look like enormous antelope skins were stretched to form them. There was a wait at check in, and a manager came to explain that there was a problem with our room--so they upgraded us to a one bedroom villa at no extra charge! The villa was gorgeous, with a whirlpool tub we never actually had time to use, a full kitchen (ditto), and a double couch-bed in the living room for the girls.
It was quite late, so we ordered pricey but good food from room service, and went to bed. Our luggage arrived just after the girls had finally fallen asleep, but it did arrive that night.
