Peace on Earth?
Dec. 28th, 2008 03:36 pmNot this year.
Is anyone other than me worried that two nuclear-armed countries are massing troops along their mutual (and contested) border? And if India and Pakistan manage not to take the next step, there's always Israel and Everybody Else In The Region.
People can argue whether Israel has a moral right to defend itself, or whether 29 of 290 dead being women and children is deplorable, or the kind of surgical precision armies pray for. But imagine, for a moment...
...what if one in a hundred...even one in a thousand...mexican illegal immigrants were radicals willing to die to spill american blood? We wouldn't have "negotiations". We certainly wouldn't settle for the wall that raised the world's ire against Israel. (Hmm...no protests about the wall Egypt put up. Wonder why that is?) We'd have a scorched earth border between us and and Mexico, and it would escalate quickly from there.
Fortunately, America is blessed in her nearest neighbors...Central Americans who want to BE us, and Canadians who want, largely, to be left alone. ;>
So, if China doesn't move to annex Taiwan, and Russia doesn't invade the Ukraine...well, we may get through this. Following the Scale of War across history, the next Great War ought to have China on one side and Africa on the other. The one after that...will be fought with rocks and sticks.
With the dying of the year...pray for Peace.
