The Best Laid Plans...

vdanskI really wanted to be the first to post a review of Deva Fagan's lovely first novel, Fortune's Folly, which I finished in my mother-in-law's hospital room.
I guess that kind of explains the delay.
Being the "Sandwich Generation" reached new heights this week, where in the space of seven days I had to leave my family the day before Easter to go see my failing mother, supervised basket-hiding over the phone, returned Easter night in time to play upwords with my mother-in-law, who was driving back to NY the next day, worked Monday, gave a lecture to 40 NP students Tuesday (on GLBT health), worked Wednesday, was wrapping Leah's presents Wednesday night when we got the call that my mother in law was going to the hospital by ambulence, discovered Thursday morning that she'd had a stroke, woke Leah so she could have her birthday presents before school, arranged a sleep over for both girls, got both girls to school, drove to Albany, talked to 3 doctors, 1 NP, 1 PA, 2 physical therapists, 1 pharmacist, 1 speech therapist, 1 social worker, several nurses, arranged a plan for her rehab that was perfect except that her insurance refused to cover it, figured out a back up plan, and came home tonight, leaving my husband to continue to watch over things because I have a birthday party to run on Sunday. Oh, and his birthday is tomorrow.
Let's just say that Fortune's Folly was the bright point of my week. Review to follow when I find my misplaced sanity.
