Trip Journal-- Day 7
Mar. 14th, 2009 11:26 amMaybe I'll finish transcribing this before my next vacation....
Wednesday, February 11th -- Cozumel
We opted not to do an excursion today; I had been leaning towards visiting Chankanaab Park, but Charles asked if I really wanted to take the girls on a 20 minute taxi ride in Mexico without car seats…and I reconsidered. We had breakfast at Topsiders again, went swimming with the girls, then I went back to the Spa while the kids went to their programs. Then I spent a little alone time with Charles before we picked the kids up to take them ashore on a brief shopping run. I found a fertility carving (modern) and bargained it down from $28 to $20 by looking dubious and not saying anything. The girls got woven name bracelets, and I picked up a few pesos as souvenirs. Back on the ship, we went to lunch--Mexican buffet, with none of the concerns re: food poisoning. I would like to go back to Mexico someday, but the day on the half-empty ship was more relaxing than any of the shore excursion.
Joy and I had a nap while Leah went back to the Oceanear’s Lab, then it was time to get ready for Pirate Night. Aaarrr! Joy was very dubious about dressing up as a pirate, but was persuaded by the addition of multiple necklaces. I wore my wench outfit, and Charles wore a pirate-y Larp shirt and a bandana. I’m not sure I like Leah’s pirate outfit…she looks a lot more than 9 in it!
The supper menu came on a rolled “treasure map”, and our Servers were dressed as pirates, as was the cruise director, Brent--dashing with short white hair and an extravagant hat and coat a la Captain Hook--and various others of the crew and characters. We enjoyed dinner, but weren’t able to stay up for the party and fireworks, which were quite late. Instead, we had an early night, I read much of Morrigan’s Cross, and we woke bright and early the next morning for our last “At Sea” day.
